Obituary of Florence Grewar

Grewar, Florence Evelyn (nee. Mearow) Born in Charlton, Ontario October 2, 1921 ~ Peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital on June 20, 2013. In her 92nd year, Loving wife of the late William ‘My Bill’ Grewar (March 27, 2012) for 60 years. Much loved mother of Kathryn Boston (Antonios ‘Tony’ Taji) and Nancy Gorman. Dear grandmother ‘Gram’ of Daniel Boston, Jeffrey Boston, Melissa, Nicole and Trisha. Remembered by her brother in law Owen McAllister and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Martin and Jean Mearow,twin brother Martin Mearow (Eleanor), brothers Doug Mearow (Clara) and Truman Mearow and by her sisters Helen (John Perras), June Mearow,Josephine (Jack Hughes) and Kay McAllister. Florence was a proud member of The Canadian Woman’s Army Corp holding the rank of Lance Corporal and receiving her license as an RNA, serving at Camp Borden and various other places. She also worked at Hotel Dieu St. Catharines and Cornwall. A founding member of the St. Denis CWL and a volunteer at Linhaven for many years. Never having an idle hand Florence had a passion for knitting and crocheting as she enjoyed donating hundreds of her works of art to charities. She enjoyed her retirement of over thirty years with the love of her life, Bill where they travelled by bus twice a month well into their 70’s for Toronto Blue Jays games.The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Linhaven and the St. Catharines General Hospital (Floor 4A) for all of your care and support. Darte Funeral Chapel (39 Court Street, St. Catharines 905-685-6584) on Wednesday,June 26, 2013 from 2 … 4 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be celebrated in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, June 27,2013 at 10 a.m. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
