Obituary of Josephine Birmingham
Birmingham, Josephine ~ Passed away at Linhaven Home for the Aged in St. Catharines on Friday February 14, 2014 at the age of 95 years. Josephine was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Josephine Marie Birmingham (nee Cox), wife of her late husband, John Birmingham, and her loving companion of many years, Richard Thomasson. Dear mother of Joanne Frank, Donna Birmingham, Eric Birmingham (Donna) and Paula Muir. Grandmother of Stephen, Jennifer, Alexandra and Mitchell. Great grandmother of Aurora, Emily and Joshua. Josephine will be remembered by her sister Edna MacMillan. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her other brothers and sisters. Josephine was Linhaven’s first Director of Nursing from 1957-1970, Administrator of Dorchester Manor in Niagara Falls from 1970-1983. She contributed much to the betterment and enrichment of lives being served in long term care. She was a devoted mother, nurse and friend, was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be forever remembered. The family wish to express their appreciation for the care given to their mother by the staff of Linhaven, Comcare and all the other care givers for their support and service. Friends and relatives are invited to a “Come & Go” at Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court St., St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 2 to 4pm. Memorial donations to either the Alzheimers’ Society of Niagara or the Dalhousie Unit at Linhaven Home for the Aged would be appreciated by the family.
