Gaëtane D’Amboise (née Tardif)

1929-2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gaëtane D’Amboise (née Tardif) on July 16, 2025, at the age of 96, at The Henley House, in St. Catharines. She is now in God’s care and reunited with her beloved husband Normand, who predeceased her in 2002.

Gaëtane was the cherished mother of André (JoAnne), Allan (Vicky), Brian (Donna) and Susan (Marc), and the loving grandmother of Amanda (Steve), David, Shauna (Dave), Donovan (Lisa), Robert, Catherine (Jonah), Amy, Kristen (Michael), Kaitlyn (Gabriel) and Kasey. She was proud to be a great-grandmother to Samuel, Rosely, Zohaan, Reina, Leonardo, Jinora, Holly, Mitchell and Luca.

Born on March 29, 1929, in Cabano, Québec, Gaëtane was the eldest of 15 children. In 1952, she married Normand and together they built a life of love, commitment and resilience in St. Catharines. Her life was marked by kindness, generosity, hard work, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Gaëtane was predeceased by her parents Robert and Jeanne Tardif and by her siblings Colombe, Robert, Raymonde, Blondin, Jean, Gaétan, Lucius and Ghislain. She is lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings Ghislaine Dionne, Gérard, Raymond, Louis, Pâquerette and Ginette, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Gaëtane dedicated her career to education as a passionate and respected French teacher at Denis Morris High School in St. Catharines. She was deeply committed to her students, who appreciated her warmth, patience, and love of learning.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Henley House for their compassionate care over the past five years. In keeping with Gaëtane’s wishes, a private funeral will be held for family and close friends. For those who wish, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice Niagara.

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Gaëtane D’Amboise (née Tardif), survenu le 16 juillet 2025, à l’âge de 96 ans, à la résidence The Henley House, à St. Catharines. Elle repose désormais dans la paix de Dieu, réunie avec son époux bien-aimé, Normand, décédé en 2002.

Gaëtane était la mère chérie d’André (JoAnne), Allan (Vicky), Brian (Donna) et Susan (Marc), ainsi que la grand-maman adorée d’Amanda (Steve), David, Shauna (Dave), Donovan (Lisa), Robert, Catherine (Jonah), Amy, Kristen (Michael), Kaitlyn (Gabriel) et Kasey. Elle était également une arrière-grand-maman fière de Samuel, Rosely, Zohaan, Reina, Leonardo, Jinora, Holly, Mitchell et Luca.

Née le 29 mars 1929 à Cabano, au Québec, Gaëtane était l’aînée d’une fratrie de quinze enfants. En 1952, elle s’est unie à Normand avec qui elle a bâti une vie empreinte d’amour, de loyauté et de résilience à St. Catharines. Sa vie fut marquée par sa gentillesse, sa générosité, son travail assidu et son profond attachement à sa famille.

Elle était précédée dans la mort par ses parents, Robert et Jeanne Tardif, ainsi que par ses frères et sœurs Colombe, Robert, Raymonde, Blondin, Jean, Gaétan, Lucius et Ghislain. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses frères et sœurs survivants : Ghislaine Dionne, Gérard, Raymond, Louis, Pâquerette et Ginette, ainsi que de nombreux neveux, nièces et membres de la famille élargie.

Gaëtane a consacré sa carrière à l’enseignement en tant que professeure de français respectée à l’école secondaire Denis Morris à St. Catharines. Elle se dévouait pleinement à ses élèves, qui ont su apprécier sa tendresse, sa patience et sa passion pour l’apprentissage.

Comme elle l’avait souhaité, un dernier hommage lui sera rendu dans l’intimité, en présence de sa famille et de ses proches. Vos témoignages de sympathie peuvent se traduire par un don à la mémoire de Gaëtane à Hospice Niagara.
