Obituary of Lelia Lillian Watson
WATSON, Lelia L. -
In her will, by way of a poem, she told us: “Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was…spoken without effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it”.
Lelia L. (née Angle) passed away peacefully at Henley House on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 in her 87th year. She is the daughter of Carl and Hazel Angle, sister to Roy, Carole, and Margaret, beloved mother to Carl (d. 1985), Derek, and John Bergstrom. She is greatly missed by her grandchildren Heather, Christopher, Timothy, and Eric.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Carl Bergstrom (d. 1969), and found joy in love again in her marriage to William Watson (d. 2018). She is stepmother to Holly, Jeff, and Doug.
A nurse for over thirty years, Lelia was very involved with the MACK school of Nursing Alumni. Her other passions included golf, skiing, and bridge.
If we are to follow the advice of her parting poem – “Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name,”–we would call her resilient but graceful, a woman who dedicated her life to helping others, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
“I am but waiting for you…somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well.”
Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel (39 Court St., St. Catharines) has been entrusted with arrangements. Cremation has taken place and an internment will be held at Victoria Lawn Cemetery this spring. If desired, memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada would be appreciated by her family.
