I met Jim in the spring of 1995, I quickly learned that he was kind, generous, insightful, and very smart.
He started Technical Valve Company in 1978, incorporated it in 1980 as Tecvalco, I believe he liked business and work, but his true love was Maureen and their family. First he was my customer, then a friend, then my boss and mentor, in the end always a great friend.
Jim was a mentor to those lucky enough to have gotten close to him. He taught me a lot about how to be kind to people, and how to enjoy life other than work. I miss when he would tell a joke, and he had the best laugh out of it! I miss all of the stories of Scotland, life working on the QE-2, and how he grew his business from the ground up, all of the stories of sales calls, trade shows, the 7's, grandchildren, and a life of so much hard work and effort. I got to live some of my good old days with Jim as he reminded me once, that today might be another day to him, but to someone very young like me just starting out these were my good old days and I might need to remember them one day. For me this is that very sad day with those good memories. A life worth living, rest in peace my friend.

Jim was a very good friend to me when I was not in a very good place. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the century, I started spending six to eight months of each year away from Canada and even some of those months, in Canada, away from Ontario,
Thus, and now to my regret, I lost contact with Jim
I treasure his memory and extend my deepest sympathy to Maureen.
Rest In Peace Jim.

Jim was one of the nicest and kindest men that you could ever meet - a really gentle man. His passing brings back lot of memories from our teenage years at “The Torrance” pub in East Kilbride back in Scotland, and to our early days with Alex Patterson in our adopted cities of Toronto and St Catharines. Helen and I also remember the special times we had with Jim visiting Hong Kong for the Rugby Sevens in 1994. Our thoughts go out at this sorrowful time to Maureen, Heather, Tania and their families - it is sometimes hard to understand why good people like Jim are taken from us but have hope in tomorrow and find comfort in knowing that we were all part of a well-lived life. Rest In Peace, Jim.

When we visited Canada and stayed with my godmother Maureen we met Jim for the first time. Jim welcomed us with open arms and we felt we had known him all our lives. Jim was a great storyteller and entertained us with many a tale. His Cuba stories always began with ‘When I was in Cuba….’ Rest in Peace Jim. You will be dearly missed.

My condolences to you all on the passing of Jim .
He was the funniest cleverest Scottish friend I had the pleasure of calling family as he was good to us when we were over with him and Maureen
He was a good man to his family and gave good advice to those who wanted it. And i loved hearing the kids calling him papa that was cool
I will miss my cheeky funny pal and
Loved his stories
God bless you Jim for being you
You will be missed but never forgotten
