Donaven, Laura (Hurson/nee DeRocco)

It is with sad hearts we announce the sudden passing of Laura Donaven (Hurson/DeRocco) on Saturday, October 8, 2022 in the comfort of her home. Daughter of Barbara and Massimo (Mike) DeRocco, beloved mother of Barry Donaven and Ryan Donaven, sister to David DeRocco and Paul DeRocco, cherished Aunt to Danielle and Derek Schroeder, Keonna MacDonald, Tessa DeRocco, and Brittany and Rob Jackson. Laura had a wicked wit and a profound love of family that defined her life. Laura was a Port Weller School/Grantham High student who married in her early 20s, raising her family in Niagara Falls and in Hartington on Sharbot Lake north of Kingston. If you ever had the pleasure of knowing Laura’s mother you would notice the resemblance both physically and auditorily (those voices). Laura was kind, loyal, honest, caring, hard-working, opinionated and wonderfully stubborn. She was so much fun to engage in conversation, especially when she opposed your view; there were many a good debate around the kitchen table when Laura was on her game. She had a deep well of compassion and love in her heart for those she loved, especially her two sons, and we are all deeply saddened by her loss. A celebration of life will be held in the future. In the meantime, do something kind for someone you love in her honour.
