Obituary of Michael Joseph Shea
SHEA, Michael Joseph
It is with enormous sadness that we announce the passing of Michael on Jan. 4, 2023 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family, music, love, and prayer. Loving husband of the late Kathryn Shea (Benjaminson). Beloved father of Heather (Thomas Lanners) and the late Peter Shea (Juliet Dunn). Proud grandpa of Benjamin and Joel Lanners. Survived by his siblings Margaret (Ron Lewis), Sister Catherine g.s.i.c., Patrick, and Eleanor (Brian Nordlund). Predeceased by his parents Helen (Muldoon) and Clement Shea. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Michael was born on August 30, 1942 in Ottawa, Ontario. He attended the University of Ottawa and went on to graduate from Osgood Law School. He practised law in St. Catharines for over fifty years and was greatly admired and respected in the legal community. He helped countless people in their hour of need, and always did so with compassion and empathy.
Among his many pursuits were poetry (the reading and writing thereof), golf, hockey, and coming up with one-liners. Michael loved music deeply and started charming audiences at the piano at the age of five. This ability to entertain, coupled with his generosity in sharing his gifts, brought joy to so many throughout his lifetime. His musicianship is a precious legacy that lives on in his children and grandchildren. Michael was an enormously gifted soul who shared his musical talents and his legendary sense of humour with all who knew him.
Michael loved his family and his friends immensely. The family would like to thank his many friends who have surrounded and supported him through losses and health challenges in recent years. We pray that he is now reunited with Peter, his beloved son and with Kathy, the love of his life. They will be making beautiful music in heaven together. He may be gone but he has touched our souls and he will never be forgotten.
