Leonard has sung his last song. On September 16, 2015, Leonard died peacefully in his room at Tufford Manor in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Emilie. Devoted father of five children: Darrell (Fiona Santianni), Byron (Sharon Cudrak),Grace Shaughnessy(Steve), Celeste Mannila (Lindsay), Bernie (Carolyn Mullin); eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Brent, Ryan, Katie, Daniel, Cameron, Emily, Alex and Tess; one brother, Ralph Cochran; four sisters-in-law; Barbara Sopkiw (Vic), Marie, Bea and Diane Puchalski. Predeceased by two sons Lawrence and Terrence; by brothers Russell, Arthur and Gerald; by sisters; Grace, Anne, Jean and Frances. Leonard was born on the family farm in Grandview, Manitoba, and worked at farms in the area before serving overseas in the Second World War. When the war ended, he headed to Northwestern Ontario, where he spent forty-two years working as foreman at a pulp and paper
Mill in Red Rock. When he retired, he and wife Emilie settled in St. Catharines where he enjoyed spending time with his family, attending church and golfing as a member at Queenston/St. Davids and Greenwood. In 2006, he moved to Tufford Manor and found his singing voice. He delighted in singing to friends, family,strangers and the caring staff at Tufford Manor, who treated him like family. 39 Court St., St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from 12noon until time of service 1pm.
Private interment has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Memorial Fund at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Leonard’s memory.
