Obituary of Fr. Charles Thomas Moser
After serving the Lord Jesus as a faithful priest for over 33 years, Fr. Charles Thomas Moser was called home to God peacefully on November 23rd, surrounded by his family in faith. Fr. Charles was born on May 17, 1950 in Buffalo, NY. He was the first of five sons in the Moser family.
After completing his college degree and prior to answering the call to the priesthood, Fr. Charles taught as a headmaster at a private Boarding school.
Fr. Charles was ordained to the holy priesthood on May 12, 1990 for the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Catharines and was a holy and devoted friend of Jesus Christ. He had the respect and loyalty of the bishops he served with, was highly regarded by his brother priests and sisters in religious life as coworkers in the Lord’s vineyard and was loved by the faithful people of God to which he had the privilege of serving. He had a great sense of humour and was a true disciple of prayer. He loved to cycle, read and liked cars and ships.
Fr. Charles served as priest in the parish communities of St. Denis (St. Catharines), Our Lady of the Holy Rosary (Thorold), St. Michael (Fort Erie), St. Thérèse of Lisieux (Port Colborne), St. Aloysius (Thorold South), St. Ann (Fenwick), St. Julia (St. Catharines) and St. Thomas Aquinas (St. Catharines). Fr. Charles served as Vicar Forane of the St. Catharines Deanery and Welland Deanery and as Episcopal Vicar for Administration and for Permanent Deacons before being appointed as Chancellor of the Diocese in 2012. Along with other priestly roles he held with great esteem, Fr. Charles served as Diocesan Chaplain for the Catholic Women’s League for the Diocese of St. Catharines and was a chaplain and 4th degree member Knight of Columbus in Council 1394.
Fr. Charles was predeceased by his beloved parents Joseph & Margaret Moser. He is survived by his dear brothers Eric, Gordon (Dale), Mark (Stephanie) and Paul, dear friend of Carole Jamieson. Fr. Charles is a loving uncle to Erin (Jason), Eric Jr., Elliott (Lisa), Joseph, and Leya and great uncle to Wyllow, Raya, Olyver, Ondrej, Alex and Jordan.
Fr. Charles wanted to send his most sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and health care team of volunteers and friends at Hospice Niagara for their unparalleled care, compassion, and kindness during the final weeks of life here on earth as he prepared spiritually to enter the kingdom of heaven.
