Clara Margaret Mannell Obituary

Clara “Margaret” Mannell (nee Sinclair)

September 17, 1923 – January 19, 2024

Our mom, Margaret Mannell, who lived a beautiful life focused on family and friends passed

away in her sleep at “The Meadows of Dorchester” LTC at the age of 100 years. She was

predeceased by her husband Charles, the love of her life, and was the last surviving of her four

brothers and a sister.

She leaves behind her daughter Lois, her sons Roger (Marg), Raymond (Maureen), Dennis

(Shelley), and Larry (Jill), niece Sheryl (Steve) along with nine grandchildren, and five great

grandchildren.

Mom was born and raised on a dairy farm in Louth Township, and right up to the end of her life

she enjoyed telling stories about her childhood on the farm with her siblings. She had very fond

memories of bringing the cows in from the pasture after returning from school each day,

snatching eggs from the hen house, haying time, and helping her mother cook and bake.

In her teens, Mom played basketball in a church league and won a provincial championship,

and later captained a team in an industrial league during the Second World War. She instilled a

love of the game in her children who were the first in the neighborhood to have a basketball

net on the front of their garage and an asphalt driveway for a court. She often would come out

after dinner for a game of 21.

Mom married our dad Charles soon after he returned from the war, and together they built

their house on a half-acre lot in west St. Catharines where they raised their family. They lived

there for 52 years.

Most fondly we, her children, will remember her for the caring mom and homemaker she was,

her smile, Friday bake days with delicious pies, the extended family get-togethers, and her

generosity to neighbors and those she and our dad encountered throughout their lives in need

of support. We will greatly miss her.

A special thank you to the staff at the Meadows of Dorchester for their loving care and

attention to Margaret these last few years.

In accordance with her wishes, Mom has been cremated and will be interred with our dad. A

celebration of her life will be held at Garden City Funerals and Cremations (Formerly the Patrick J Darte Funeral Chapel), 39 Court Street, St.Catharines (Downtown) on Saturday, January 27 at 1:00pm. Online condolences at gardencityfunerals.ca
