So sad to hear of your loss, Hazel, Adrian and Grant. There are many tributes here from Mr. Strupp's athletes and students, but it can barely scratch the surface of what his presence and efforts in our lives meant to us. He garnered respect and returned it two fold, and taught us with patience and understanding, enthusiasm and pragmatism.
We learned without embarassment in health, we learned to love dance class at an awkward time in our lives. My memories are too many, and still so prevalent. His voice lots of times in my ears as I continued to keep sports in my life after highschool. His committment gave so many opportunities to a young girl that might not have otherwise had them. Drives to track meets in the summer, our first flights when attending a meet in Thunder Bay, countless stops for dinners, trust when away at overnight meets in Ottawa, Toronto, elsewhere. Someone for whom we all wanted to work, and to whom we listened with appreciation for his opinions, stern ones when we needed them.
We marvelled at his abilities, often taking on two players at a time at tennis, badminton, and as Harold mentioned beating most of us at sprints and cross country. There didn't seem to be a sport that he wasn't well versed in and adept at.
I can only imagine what family life was like with him, your fortune at experiencing that, and now equally the loss.
Rest Well, track "Dad",
Sincere Condolences to the family,
Gloria Yeung (Brehaut) '81
