Obituary of Mark Newman
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father Mark Newman on January 14, 2025. Father, grandfather, and friend, Mark lived a life dedicated to legacy. Legacy in the steel industry following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, legacy in the community through his involvement with the Niagara Health Network and legacy with his family.
Born and raised in St. Catharines, Mark found immense joy and pride in being an active member of his hometown community. A proud resident of the Old Glenridge neighbourhood, he cherished the opportunity to raise his family across the street from where he himself grew up, passing on the traditions and values he held dear. Mark was deeply connected to the fabric of the place he called home.
In recent years, Mark’s greatest source of joy came from his children and his grandsons, who brought light into his life. Always the first thing when answering a phone -asking how “his boys" were doing, delighting in watching them grow and develop their unique personalities. Mark will be remembered for his sharp wit, his love of politics and history and his commitment to the community of St. Catharines.
Mark is survived by his children Michael (Kathryn), Alex (Nathanael), and Meagan; his cherished grandsons Cole, Henry, Ezra, and Cooper; his sister Abbey Newman; his mother Sheila Newman; and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Beth Jacob Cemetery (1250 Snake Road, Burlington, ON). Shiva will be observed at the home of Michael and Kathryn (33 Hamptonbrook Drive, Etobicoke, ON) on Sunday, January 19th, with drop-in hours from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in peace.
