Obituary of Gordon Ley
Gordon Ley, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on April 2, 2014 after a three year battle with cancer. Gordon was born in Edinburgh on December 16, 1942, and after formative years in Lowestoft, Suffolk, he attended the Camborne School of Mines and Imperial College. In 1971 he married Jennifer Ley (Mitchell), and in 1980, with four young sons in tow, moved to Canada. His career as a mining engineer spanned over 40 years and took him all around the world. He retired after more than 30 years with Golder Associates, and was enjoying a relaxing life of travel, reading and entertaining. His spontaneous wit, social repartee and unsurpassed ability to tell jokes made him “an old friend” after just a few encounters. He is survived by his wife Jenny, sons David, Duncan, Toby and Roger, daughters-in-law Robin, Becky, Tara and Sarah and six grandchildren, Maya, Rowan, Lucas, Nara, Sophie and Ewan. He will be desperately missed by his family and friends.
