Obituary of Alice Birmingham
Birmingham (nee McNeil), Alice With gratitude for her long life and sorrow for how much we will miss her,Alice passed away peacefully in her 99th year on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Alice was predeceased by her husband, James, her sons, Ronald, Elmer, James, her daughter Alice and her great granddaughter Marianne. Ever caring, always supportive, she was the cherished mother of Edward (Dawn), Brian (Sheila), Raymond (Nancy), Tommy and daughter-in-law, Betty (Garth). Alice is survived by her sister-in-law and best friend, Lorraine Birmingham. Alice, one of eleven children, was born in Florence, Nova Scotia moving to Ontario in 1946. She lived a happy, full and active life. Alice was a Foster Parent and was passionate about ice skating, lawn bowling, square dancing, alley bowling and cards. She was an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to know her. We'll miss her laughter, wisdom and unconditional love. Alice was the proud grandmother and Gigi of eleven grandchildren and boastful Great-grandmother of twenty-one great-children. They were her pride and joy. Alice resided for over 30 years at Luther Manor, Russell Avenue in St. Catharines,and made many wonderful close friends whom she thought of as her family.Her family thanks all of those who were so supportive over the years. Alice's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Chateau Gardens Long Term Care Residence in Niagara-on-the-Lake especially to Kay, Michelle and Yvonne who were so caring and supportive. Visitation will be held at Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court St., St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Friday May 16, 2014 from 7 to 9pm.The Rosary will be said in the funeral home on Friday May 16, 2014 at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Face of Jesus Roman Catholic Church,181 Lake Street, St. Catharines on Saturday May 17, 2014 at 9am. Rite of Committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Holy Face of Jesus Roman Catholic Church (905-704-0038) would be appreciated by the family.
