Obituary of Genevieve Horwat

Horwat, Genevieve Mary (nee Barszcz) We, the ones left behind, celebrate the life of Genevieve Mary Horwat. She passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 13, 2014 at Upper Canada Lodge in Niagara-on-the-Lake, in her 95th year. She was loved dearly by her late husband Steve, her children Stephen (Ursula), Ed, Sharyn (Erv Pahl), Janice (Don Abrams) and Dennis (Ida). Loving grandmother of ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is remembered by her sister Janine.She is predeceased by her brothers Joe, Stan and Walter. Genevieve’s faith was an important part of her life and she lived it daily. She never lost her appreciation and love of her family, and her grandchildren. There was never such a queen. Witty and engaging,her love of life, her characteristic charm, and optimism were unfailing throughout her life. Genevieve’s family wishes to express their thanks to the nursing staff at the Upper Canada Lodge in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Visitation will be held at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court St., St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 10am to 11am. A celebration of Genevieve’s life will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11am.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimers’ Society (1-800-616-8816) would be appreciated.
