Obituary of Kathryn Shea

Shea, Kathryn Passed peacefully at Hospice Niagara on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 after a valiant battle with cancer. Kathryn Margaret Shea (nee Benjaminson), loving wife of Michael Shea, loving mother of Heather (Thomas Lanners) and Peter Shea (Juliet Dunn), proud grandma of Benjamin and Joel. Dear sister of Laurie Scarrow (Judy), Lynne (Chuck Kellner) and Ellen (Brad Gray). Dear aunt of Kathryn, David, Erik, Lyndsey, Mary, Debbie, Michael, Mark, Cathy, Meagan, Kaelin, David, Andrew and Colleen. Kathy will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of her extended family and friends. Predeceased by her parents Margaret and Edward Benjaminson. Kathy was born August 9, 1944 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Cancer may have taken her life but it could never defeat her strong spirit, her humour and her grace. Kathy had an eclectic love of music, enjoying everything from Chopin to Chapin. She also loved laughing, swimming, dancing, reading, crosswords, golf and bridge (not so much). Her greatest joy was found in her family and her friends. She worked for over thirty-five years as a legal assistant and always showed kindness and empathy towards those less fortunate. Her family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and volunteers at Hospice Niagara for their incredible compassionate care. Visitation will be held at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court St., St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 2:00 pm until time of service Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice Niagara (905-984-8766) would be appreciated.
